Barangay Creation

CREATION

In the  1920’s  Kimamon was   a forested area inhabited   by  primitive   tribes   known   as Mandayas and Aetas.  Several    years  later, the    area  was   gradually   occupied by the  Christian migrants  mostly from  the Sibuyan  Island  in Romblon.  The  name    “Kimamon“  was   derived   from the  body   of  water  that traverse  through this wide plain and flows eastward to the  Libuganon River. It is  an  Aeta    word  which  means “silent.” Moreover, another derivation of  the  word “KIMAMON” was  from   the   two  varieties  of  plants of the  vine family that were  very abundant  in this place. The  first one  was called  by the aetas as “kili” could  be  made into  baskets and the  other one  called “ ambong or among” were used  by the  lumads to  darken their teeth.  From that, they named  the    place  “KIL-AMONG” and  Christian settlers renamed it “KIMAMON”for  easy pronunciation.

Due to  constant  migration of  new  settlers , Kimamon  became    a sitio  of  Barangay Talomo which was   then  under the  Municipality  of  kapalong on August 14, 1948 the Municipal Council of  Kapalong endorsed a resolution through  the provincial board for the  creation of  Sitio Kimamon into  a regular barangay  of Kapalong. When the  municipality of  sto. Tomas was created on august 14, 1959 by Virtue of  Excecutive Order No. 352 signed by the late pres. Carlos p. Garcia. Kimamon became one   of  its regular   barangays.

In 1970s, the  entry of  multi-national companies engaged in  exporting Cavendish bananas to other countries paved the  establishment  of  banana plantations in the barangay. Since  then, exportable banana industry in the  barangay had flourished as the main attributes to its rapid growth and  development. The  Barangay maintain in a level III  water system, complete Elementary and High  School.  The  Barangay  Kimamon is also  considered as the  most  developed  barangay  in the municipality.
